Posted Sunday, January 20, 2013 by Michael Henderson
After losing 4-2 to Xavier in the opening league game of the season,
Stepinac had a great team effort winning 8-2.  Seven different goal
scorers contributed in the win led by sophomore forward Frank Haklits'
2 goals and junior forward Wyatt Zuk's 3 assists.  Junior defenseman
Charlie Flemen had 1g and 2a, sophomore forward Rob Sanders added 1g
and 2a.   Senior netminder Anthony Mensi made 13 saves.  Stepinac had
a 1-0 lead after one.  Xavier scored two quickly in the second to go
up 2-1. Stepinac scored 7 unanswered to win 8-2.

We dominated puck possession and really kept pressure on their
defensemen during the forecheck.  We created a lot of scoring
opportunities and were able to follow up shots on net with good
rebound goals.  Defensively we played very smart and were able to
regroup and transition to offense very quickly.  This is an important
win as we make a push for the playoffs.  The next two contests are non
league games against Eastchester/Tuckahoe/Bronxville and North
Rockland which are two quality opponents that will help us prepare for
the remaining league games.
