The Stepinac JV hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with rival Iona Prep on Monday night in Flushing. The Crusaders out shot the Gaels 40-36.

The Crusaders opended up the scoring early in the first on a goal by Sebastian Lopez. The goal was set up off of an assist from freshman forward Rob Sanders. Iona would answer late in the first, evening the game at 1-1.

That is where the scoring would end for both the Crusaders and the Gaels, as Ray Guerriro made a flurry of stops along the way to his 35 save performance.

Credit must also be given to freshman forward Kyle Mahoney, who made a game saving play in the third period to help seal the point for Stepinac.
