Farrell edges Stepinac for CHSHL title

Stepinac suffered its second one-goal loss to Monsignor Farrell in as many nights and was eliminated from the best-of-three CHSHL championship series with last night's 2-1 verdict at the Ice Hutch in Mount Vernon.

Anthony Reagan scored for the Crusaders off assists from Rocco Miano and Shaun Hanlon late in the third period.

"It's a tough loss," senior Rob Docherty said. "We were with them the whole time but we never got it up. That last minute-and-a-half we were all over them."

The Crusaders were coming off a 6-5 overtime loss on Saturday, where they fought back from a four-goal deficit in the first period.

"I think we showed up, we weren't going to just roll over and let them take the championship from us," Docherty said. "We were down four-nothing yesterday and two-nothing today, and we just fought back."

Unfortunately, the Crusaders couldn't find the net again after the Reagan goal but Docherty said it wasn't because they were outplayed.

"We knew we could play with them after Saturday's game," Docherty said. "We were just going to try and come out big. I think it's just kinda how it happened. They played really well but we were with them the whole time."

Michael Lanaro had 17 saves for the Crusaders.

Docherty is proud of his team's accomplishments.

"No one thought they'd see us in the final, no one thought we'd be in the playoffs," the forward said. "We gave it a good run."
