Stepinac sweeps CHSHL semifinal series

Rocco Miano had four goals and an assist last night as Stepinac wrapped up its best-of-three CHSHL semifinal series in two straight, beating Chaminade 5-3 at the Ice Hutch in Mount V ernon.

Steven Yankowski also scored to help the Crusaders advance to the finals against Monsignor Farrell. That best-of-three series begins Saturday at Abe Stark Arena in Brooklyn.

Manager Adolfo Rueda attributed his team's aggresive power-play offense for the Crusaders' come-from-behind victory, as they were trailing 3-2 heading into the third period.

"Our power play put a lot of pressure on them," said Rueda. "Then Steven scored and that gave us the momentmum, and then Rocco scored to put us ahead, which gave our team new life."

After losing in last year's championship series to Iona Prep, the Crusaders look to capture this year's title against a Monsignor Farrell team that has already beaten them three times this season.

"We think they're going to be over-confident against us, but it's hard to beat someone four times in one season," said Rueda. "We're just looking to capitalize on their mistakes, play our zone and create opportunites."
